As part of every Pick 3 draw, a Fireball number is also selected. This has the power to turn a losing number combination into a winner. Find out more about how it works, including examples.
To play Fireball, all you need to do is mark the relevant option on your playslip or request it from the retailer. You are not required to do anything else such as picking more numbers, but adding the Fireball does double the cost of a wager. It has to be applied at the time of purchase - it cannot be done afterwards.
The Fireball itself is a number from 0 to 9 that is drawn after the three main numbers have been selected. It can be the same as a number that has already been drawn or it can be different.
It acts as a special number, like a wildcard, that you can use to replace any of the three winning digits. This helps to boost the odds of winning.
You can win a Fireball prize with any play type. You’ll need to match at least two of the three winning digits (or one out of two if you’re playing a Pair), and then the Fireball can help you to achieve a win.
For example, if you pick the numbers 123 and the numbers drawn are 120, this would not give you a win in the base game. However, if the Fireball is a 3, this would allow you to swap out the 0 that was drawn and replace it with the 3 to give you a winning combination.
You can also win multiple prizes with Fireball. For instance, if you play a Box and pick the numbers 456, and the numbers drawn are 445, this would be a loss in the base game. However, if the Fireball drawn is 6, you could use this to replace either of the 4s that have been drawn. This creates two winning combinations – 645 and 465.
